Paid summer internships of up to 13 weeks inside New York City government agencies (more than 35 agencies, 800+ interns a year) in policy, data, communications, engineering, finance, health and social services, with professional development and civil-service career guidance.

Why it matters

The city's largest centralized paid internship pipeline for undergraduates and graduate students of every major. 2027 postings start in February.

The official page does not state a citizenship or immigration rule. Confirm with the organizer before you invest time.

The official page and FAQ do not mention citizenship or work authorization, but interns are hired into paid civil-service titles, so work authorization is expected. Ask the hiring agency whether CPT is accepted if you are on an F-1 visa.

Eligibility

Undergraduate interns must be enrolled in a college or have graduated within one year. Graduate interns must be enrolled in a graduate or law program. New York City residency is not required, but you must be able to commute to the assigned office. Apply directly to each agency posting with a resume and cover letter. Each agency runs its own interviews.

How to apply

From February 2027, review the agency list on the SIP page and send a resume and cover letter directly to each agency following its posting. Applying to several positions is encouraged.

The page says summer 2027 positions and the agency list will be updated starting in February 2027. Each posting sets its own deadline. Internships run May to early September.
