CUNY's honors college admits high school seniors to one of eight CUNY senior colleges (Baruch, Brooklyn, City, Staten Island, Hunter, John Jay, Lehman, Queens) with a merit package that includes a full tuition scholarship for students who meet CUNY's New York State residency rules.

Why it matters

City College's Immigrant Student Center confirms undocumented students may apply, and New York residents who qualify for in-state tuition get the full tuition scholarship whatever their status.

CUNY's Immigrant Student Center says undocumented students and students with limited or precarious immigration status are eligible to apply. Macaulay says students must meet CUNY's New York State residency requirements for in-state tuition to receive the full tuition scholarship, and that international students are not eligible for that part.

Eligibility

Current high school seniors applying for fall 2027 through the CUNY application with Macaulay selected (holistic review). The tuition scholarship requires meeting CUNY's New York State residency rules for in-state tuition. Students on F-1 visas may apply and get the Opportunities Fund, advising and Cultural Passport, but not the tuition scholarship. Community college students should look at the Friedman Transfer Scholars Program instead.

How to apply

Submit the CUNY freshman application with Macaulay selected and up to eight campus choices, with essays, transcript and recommendations. Undocumented New York students should check CUNY's in-state residency rules.
